Unpacked an Apartment With compassion, not Judgment

Together, we gently parted with many items she’d held onto over the years, pieces saved for a “someday” that never quite arrived.

Goal

Her goal was to gently let go of the past, honoring how difficult it was to part with certain items. She wanted to pare down an overwhelming amount of belongings, release the weight of materialism, and transform her space into a calm, intentional oasis that truly reflects her current lifestyle.

Declutter & Sort

Unpacking, sorting, and decluttering an entire apartment is no small feat. This project unfolded over four days, as we worked through a significant volume of belongings—from clothing to a surprisingly large collection of holiday décor—taking the time to thoughtfully address each category with care and intention.

Short-Term Solutions

While we waited for her furniture to arrive, we created thoughtful short-term solutions that allowed us to declutter and organize the items she chose to keep. The process wasn’t about perfection—because it rarely is—but about adaptability. We put systems in place that work now and will continue to support her as she adds the final touches and settles fully into her space.

Organized Maximilist

Not everyone is a minimalist—and that’s perfectly okay. That was never the goal. Organizing isn’t about imposing personal preferences; it’s about honoring the client’s comfort, needs, and autonomy. You can gently guide, but ultimately it’s their decision what stays and what goes.

I was incredibly proud of her for donating truckloads of clothing, even while keeping enough to fill an entire closet. From there, we created order by organizing her wardrobe by type and color, and arranging her shoes from casual to formal—making everything easier to see, access, and enjoy.
